Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

I just put a round bar on the f4eezy...and I got the 15 dollar oval aftermarket tailight that HAI sells. Now, how the hell do I wire this thing?

On my lights there are 3 wires per bulb.

1 green wire with yellow stripe on it
1 black with a brownish stripe
1 green no stripe

so 6 wires total once i commit to clippin off the stock ends with the bulbs on em.

This aftermarket light I got has 3 wires

1 red, 1 black, 1 white

There is a wiring code in the "directions"

White - ground
brown - running lights
yellow - left turn and stop
green - right turn and stop
red - turn and stop light
blue - auxillary circuit

I hope that helps...i dont want to start cutting and hooking wires up and poppin fuses or fuckin sumthin up. And do I need a resistor? Cuz if so I dont know how the hell to hook that up either. I just know I can gtet one at a parts store so Ive been told. If I get good directions from sumone I wont have a problem hookin it up. Be descriptive if you know how to do it if ya can. Thanks

edit: all I want it to do is running light and brake light function. I think it may have blinkers in it? Not sure, but if it does I dont wana hook that up. Just running light/brake light.

Re: Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

I'm not a professional or anything but I'm pretty clever and lazy, here's what I would do because I dont feel like looking up wiring diagrams

on your bike-
I'll assume black is ground
now we need to know what red or white does, one is running lights and one is brake lights, clip the red wire and see if your running lights work, if they do hit the brake and if that doesn't come on then we know that red is the brake.

so now you go
your bike light
black white
red red
white brown

anyone feel free to say im full of ish

Re: Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

the white wire on the light has a eye lit for a bolt to go through it. So im thinkin it is the groun even tho we are used to black being ground. Also, I dont think you read what I wrote very clearly.

I cant hook up the wires like you say.

I cant go red to red..the only red wire I got is the one on the aftermarket light. There is no brown wire.

For the F4i? I just did mine so I can tell you whats what if its for the F4i. I just gotta find where I wrote it down and dont wanna do that if its for a different bike.

Re: Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

the white on the light is your ground....put the eyelet to the frame...

with the remaining wires coming from the light touch one of the wires to a prong...if it lights up with the key on then thats your running light....

so now you know which wire is your running light....try both remaining wires coming out of your light to see which is brighter...the brighter one will be the brake light....so take the wire that makes the light the dimmest and hook that up to which ever wire has the power with the key on...

then for the brake find which wire only has power when the brake is on and hook it up....

it should all be 12 volt so you wont blow any wires just touching wires from your light to wires on your bike...

just set your ground good and tight and start trying to find which goes where!

hope this helps

Re: Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

From the manual
black and brown is ground
green and yellow is brake light
green is running light

so
black and brown-white
green/yellow-red
green - brown

i'd first check buy cutting wires to one bulb, start by cutting the green, then turn the bike on make sure the running light in the rear bulb doesnt work, now clip a green and yellow wire and turn the bike back on and make sure the brakes dont make the light come on, finally clip the brown wire on the other bulb and make sure that keeps the light from working at all.
If all that holds true then go ahead.

You got the ground and running lights mixed up. At least for me I just did this a month or two ago and I followed what I just posted up and it was all good.

Re: Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

Onewheel yea its for the f4i. Im suprised I just didnt PM you asking as usual
lol

stuntman i like the idea of touching them to the prongs. I'll try that tomorrow.

I think I got it from what you guys said.

my concern was if I had to connect the wires together from each bulb

green to green, black w/stripe to black w/stripe, and green w/yellow to green w/yellow..then connect that to the light.

So I will only use the wires to one bulb from what im getting here.

I will try it tomorrow after work and post back up. I gota go out now, otherwise id go in the garage and do it now.

edit: dont worry about it choke..atleast you gave it a whirl

The stock taillight has 2 bulbs so I ran one set of wires to each of the wiring harnesses. But I also dont have the light you got. I have 2 LED strips like HAI sells. I didnt clip the wiring harnesses or clips off though. I kept them on and spliced the wire a little right before the clips w a razor. Then wrapped the wires from the light to the corresponding wires on the bike - tested it and it worked so then I soldered the shit. I'd rather keep them clips on in case I need to flip the bike I can just clip in the stock light and i'm done. And You can pm me anytime bro. If I know I'll help - if not I'll let you know. Later bro and good luck.

Re: Aftermarket Tailight rewiring?

I grounded the white wire and touched the black and red to the prongs. I touched both the red and black wire to the same prong and hit the rear brake. The one wire makes the tailight light up dim, the other wire lights up bright when i hit the brake. But I cant get either wire when touched to any prong to light up with key on power.

My rear running light went out about a month before I took the bike off the road last year, but i still had the rear brake light. I looked at the bulbs and one set of filiments looked blown on each bulb. So I was assuming the filiments for running light were blown on each bulb. But now I cant get a running light to work with this aftermarket light. I'm going to check my fuses and see if any are blown.

Any ideas?
