R1 with a F4i throttle

Some of you have seen the threads of swapping the R6 throttle tube for a CBR600-F4i throttle tube. The R6 throttle is very twichie and sensative and the F4i throttle gives it a longer throw to help that.

As far as I know this has not been done on a R1 yet. I went on the R1 forums and found that people on the R6's would swap for the R1 throttle to give it a shorter throw for racing.

I bought a F4i throttle tube and put it on this morning. It went on with no problems. Just unscrew 2 screws and swap the new one on. About a 2min swap.
I went out a few mins ago and decided to test it out. What a huge difference. Its like a totally diferent bike. It literally feels like a dirtbike throttle after being used to the R1 throttle. Its going to take alittle while to get used to because the throw is so much longer.

If anyone has a R1 or R6 this is a great mod. ITs very simple and cost me about 15 bucks, and 2 mins of my time.

Re: R1 with a F4i throttle

Well I finally got some testing in today.

I can finally ride out standups as far as I want now. I could never quite keep my bike at the point in a wheelie where I wouldn't pick up speed. I could get there and fall just a tad in front and so on..
But with the new throttle I can keep my bike at that perfect point and not pick up speed anymore. I can ride until it kills my arms, then I set it down.
I'm actually starting to slow them down by riding behind ballence point.
Today I went riding with the 315riders and if there was a car or bike in fron of me and I was going faster then they were I was slowing them down and keeping steady behind them.

I even had my exhaust a couple inches from the ground a few times. The guys behind me said they were waiting for my exahust to touch.
Makes me feel good that I can finally keep my bike steady at that point now.

Re: R1 with a F4i throttle

what was the diameter of the r1's throttle tube? i did this to my r6 and think i might want to do it to my r1 also, but i don't have any of my tools here yet to check it. was it a huge difference? for some reason my r1 gives me problems keeping it up too long, its twitchy as a hell.

Huge is an understatment. I love it. Like a differnet bike.
The throttles on the R1's are just so damn twichie I couldn't get to the point of riding them out as far as I want.
Now I can do miles I only stop cause my arms hurt.

Re: R1 with a F4i throttle

well like if you hold the two next to each other, the outer ring with the holes for the cables in it, how much size difference was there? i know on the r6 it was almost a full cm. ? i think i will do it, just curious if you know off hand.

Re: R1 with a F4i throttle

I left this out of my post but I have already had several people ask so I'm going to add this -

When you put the F4i throttle tube on your bike still has the same power. You just need to turn the throttle more to get it.
Say if you turn your stock R1 throttle 1/4 of the way and its full throttle, well with the F4i throttle that would be say 1/2 way. If you turn it the rest of the way you still have all the same power as stock.
So no you do not loose any power, you just have to give alittle more throttle to get it.

I don't know the exact measurments.

I can tell you though that there was a big difference. if you look at the 2 you'll definatly see. And to give you an idea
People who race the R6's put a R1 throttle on their R6's to give it a shorter turn.

Thanks. I figured this could help out some of the guys on the R1's. It helps the R6 guys out and the R1 is more twichie than the R6.
I also posted a link to this on the R1 forum.

Someone should try this mod on other 1000's and see what else it works on.

I'm thinking about changing my gearing too.
I was thinking about +5 in the rear. Then if I ever want more I can drop one in the front.

You gotta keep in mind that when you change your gearing you speed changes also. You go at a slower speed in each gear.
So you can do whelies in the next gear at slower speeds.
I was -1+6 on my old F2 and I was cluching up 3rd at 55.

I still don't know what gearing I'm doing though. I'm prolly going somwhere between +3 and +5. Not sure what would be best though.

ya.. i know the whole gearing thing. my r6 is -1/+12, i was talking about the throttle cables, i don't see a purpose for that in stunting?

Re: R1 with a F4i throttle

I don't stunt much but do like drag racing and power wheelies and that combo seems to help with both.

Re: R1 with a F4i throttle

being as the f4i throttle tube and any other f4i part for that matter is highly sought after, is there any other 600cc bike with a tube of the same diameter?
