F4i HELP!!!

ok, the last time i rode this everything was working perfectly... Tonight, i go to load it up, turn it on to drive it up and i notice the fan doesn't come on with the key like it should. I check the fuse, bingo. Everything has 20A fuses in them btw, normal is 10A for all. Well, i change the fuse. *POP* Damn! Check a few wires, can't see anything, try again, *POP* Shit!! ok, now, i put another in, and now, it's dead. I somehow blew something that killed the entire electrical system. I turn the key, and nothing, no gauges, FI, fan, etc, nothing. Is there another fuse box besides the one under the seat? Could it be a bigger problem than a fuse? I got a mess of wires tucked into the airbox, but i don't really want to have to mess with that if i don't have to. HELP!!!

Re: F4i HELP!!!

there is a 30 amp main fuse out side of the fuse box and it sounds like you have a dead short .......

unplug the fan and then replace the fuses and if it pops again then the problem is in the wires if it doesn't then the problem is in the fan

Re: F4i HELP!!!

you mean the one attached to the outside of the main box? hmm, odd, this one has a 20A in it too... that's not blown though. Um, what is up with the 3 pronged black fuse looking thing inside the main box? What is it? Still when i turn the key, nothing happens. Is almost like the battery is disconnected (yes, i checked)

hey dude , take the seat out and put new 30 amp on it wheres the starter relay is , see the red plug on it take it out and put new fuse then u r all good to go.

I think you have a ground wire touching somewhere which i hooked up to let the fan stay on when it turns.

Re: F4i HELP!!!

woot! got power back, that was the relay, thanks. but the fuse for the fan popped again. When i put the new rad on it and fan i spliced them the same way you had done with the other one. I just disconected that connection but the fuse still popped. Suggestions?

sounds like the fuse that OMR was talkin about. i don't know if ur talking about the same one (in ur reference to the 20A fuse) but it's in the little box that's connected to the red battery wire, and it's supposed to be 30A. it's not in the fuse box with all the other fuses. just follow the red cable from the battery and it'll lead u right to it. my f4i was completely dead and it was that lone fuse. i also wonder if u have a short somewhere. i had a short at that box mentioned, and what i did was wrap each connection in that little box with electrical tape. hasnt fucked up since. hope this is it, dude. finding touching wires can be a beeotch.

starter relay... that's the name a that friggin box. couldnt remember.

Re: F4i HELP!!!

well, figured out what the problem was... the whole zip tie theory gone wrong. Just before i started with this problem i noticed the rad was loose, bottom bracket broken, i zip tied it back, and the housing for the fan was touching the pipes... turn key, POP... that was fucking gay. Thanks for the help... Gotta fix the bracket the right way i suppose.

my rad is cracked at the support. i noticed it while at the lot so i found some wire on the ground and placed the rad back up properly and wrapped the wire around the top of the radiator inlet pipe and the frame for some support and it's held up fine. zip ties wouldn't have held up well at all. ghetto, but hey, it works just fine. not like my bike is the prettiest anyway.
