Now it's my brake!
Now it's my brake!
so I just got the tipover senser problem fixed and go out for a ride and my front brake locks up. after I bleed it to release the pressure I can go for maybe 5 minutes before it totally seizes up again and there's so much pressure I can't hardly squeeze the brake any further. I checked the line and it's not kinked, so what else could it be?
Re: Now it's my brake!
ok could be 2 things ..could be a dirty line (unlikley).. sounds to me like your caliper is sticking .. the pistons in the caliper are probly rusty or dirty .. you can tear them down and clean them ,and everything should be good .. but you need to be familier with rebuilding calipers .. you might not want to get into it if your not tooo sure..
Re: Now it's my brake!
it could be the plunger thing on the master cause that's what is seems like it's doing, just not retracting fluid so it builds up. I wasn't doing any brake work it just happened pretty much out of nowhere, I had my assembly off cause I was flipping my clip-ons but that's it.
Re: Now it's my brake!
I would check to see if a caliper is stuck first. Then check to see if a line is kinked like dude said. The thing with the master cylinder is the return hole may be clogged that lets fluid flow out of the cylinder and back into the reservoir. Is it a radial master or the kind with the reservoir made on?
Re: Now it's my brake!
It's the kind with the reservoir built on, stock honda master. I was checkin out ebay last night and found a new master with brake lever, lines, and both calipers for 80 bucks. so I just bought it was all that damn tax return money, no matter what the problem is I don't think it will be there when I put new **** in lol.
Re: Now it's my brake!
HOLY ****, same exact story happen to me yesterday, so my buddy needed a tip sensor, so i lent him mine til the ne one came in, so it came in yesterday and i installed it, on my way to our bike night i was rocking a wheelie towards the off ramp like i always do. as soon as i sat it down and started pulling off the exit i started applying the brakes, i noticed that the bike started bogging down so i gave it more gas thinking that the motor was going or something, but i didnt hear any sounds, and before i knew i started to endo towards the shoulder of the road, my roomate was in front and noticed that i quickly came to a stop, he turned around, i thought my motor was locked up, but i reliezed that my front brake lever wouldn't move, so i cracked the lines to relief the pressure and just rode home without using the front brake, needless to say as soon as i got home i got a set off ebay, f*ck trying to rebuild those, my mind is all screwed up now
Re: Now it's my brake!
If its the master all u have to do is take the top off(2 screws). Drain the fluid(crack line open with a 12mm wrench) and clean the small hole with a small wire like a guitar string or something. U did'nt have to buy new **** but if u have the money, more power to ya. Good luck with it bro.
Re: Now it's my brake!
ok heres the deal if you can get it to lock up then open the bleeder on the caliper if that releases the caliper then the caliper is fine ......if it doesnt then the caliper is sticking
if step one released the caliper then get it to lock up again and loosen the banjo bolt that holds the brake line to the master if this releases the caliper then the lines are not clogged ....if it doesnt then your lines are clogged ,this does happen from time to time when the lines are old or if some one used the wrong brake fluid..
if step two released the caliper then your problem is in your master.......

Re: Now it's my brake!
now that I don't have to suffer by not riding, I'll try cleaning out the master cause it sounds like that's the problem..and then I'll have working spare parts haha!
Re: Now it's my brake!
Its your rotors getting hot due to friction with your pads...transferring heat to your caliper and in turn boiling your brake fluid to the point of expansion, presurizing the system. We had a post like this come up a while back and no one believed me when i said this could happen.....You have something on your rotor most likely brake fluid or fork oil............your caliper may be sticking but that is very unlikely. Spray your rotors down good with brake cleaner...if they are really bad off you will need to clean/replace the pads. Let us know what you find out.

Not to be a dick.......... A sticking caliper (by itself) would never lock up the wheel like that. A locked up wheel: however, could be the result of a sticking caliper but thats only if there is enough friction (to create heat) to boil the system which will then lock up the wheel. At the point you bleed of the pressure the wheel would then again turn.....
Its even extremely rare for a fixed caliper (pistons on both sides) to stick to the point the fluid will boil. 99.8% of the times its due to a substance of some sort that has gotten on your rotor.
