Sprocket question...

I've been ridin my 01 F4i with 1 down and 2 up (+5) for a while. I finally saved up some money to get some gears, but wasn't exactly sure what to go with. I wanted to keep it cheap and keep my stock 525 and front sprocket and I was thinking of going with a 63 tooth in the back to make it +20. My skill level isn't all that, but I'm getting better everytime I ride. I just want the bike to come up quicker and be able to slow them down faster. As it is now, they come up somewhat quick, then I tend to gain speed before settling in the bp. I am hoping bigger gears will help...

Any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat. Some people will tell you to learn it all with stock gears (which I still have) and some will tell you to gear it up from the start. I just want to bring the bike up and keep it under 20 mph, but forearms get sore as hell pulling it up going slow.

Re: Sprocket question...

Dude, I can say one thing about that...you really should let the bike do the work...my forearms never get sore cause I don't pull the bike up (at least not very hard anyway)...I just pop the clutch and it comes up....

I'm not gettin many responces to this thread anyway...I've basically said fu(k it and am going +20. I'm sure going from +5 to +20 is going to take me a minute to get used to, but I'm goin for it...

you don't need gearing for it to come up quick...and gearing won't help you not to chase bp...it's all about control...

I Agree Sprokets Wont Help Find BP Rollin Slow. Ya Just Gotta Grow Some Keep The Throttle Twisted Tell Your Right There. Back Brake Is There For A Reason. If You Cant Slow A Wheelie Down Once You Get To BP, Practice Is All You Need.

Re: Sprocket question...

Youve gotta at least try a bigger sprocket just to see how slow you can really go off idle (2mph)and to get the feel of clutchin it up with a huge sprocket . I got mine 30 up 2 years ago and I still rock it ,it takes a bit to get used to but once you get the feel for it ,theres nothing like it. It holds that bike up @ BP practicly by itself on idle using engine brake . So I would say definately go at least 20 up.

Re: Sprocket question...

I just upgraded from a 39 tooth to a 42...not much but better acceleration.

You gotta combine both the lifting and the clutching, whereas I use a foot clutch so its a different story.

Been stunting on my buddy's Honda Supra 132 the other day, but hes only got a T35 on the rear.

EFFFFF that i couldnt imagine going that big im using -1 +4 and i can keep it rolling at idle no problem without having to slow it down after its up. But thats just my

Re: Sprocket question...

Thanks for all the comments...I just wanna add more of my 2 cents...

I've really had no problem getting the bike up with +5, but we are talkin about an 01 F4i...it aint got the power and torque or these newer bikes you rich guys are stuntin out...my goal with the sprocket is for it to come up quicker with less rpm and hopefully it will smooth out the idle...right now, the bike wants to take off even with brake control...not sure if everyone will make sense of that, but it makes sense to me...

1/2 this site stunts f4i's ... i learned on a stock one - our point is if you cant ride a wheelie without picking up speed a sprocket wont help - obviously you are gonna do what you want so good luck

Honestly, I'm not sure if it will help, but I'm gonna try it anyway...I've ridin other bikes with big gears and just liked the way they came up and held idle...hell, I might put this big *** sprocket on my bike and hate it...we'll see....thanks for the info though...
