XR50 no start?

I have a XR50 with an 88 kit on it that I bought off a friend 6 months ago. It has run great and done nothing but get me and my friends hurt, but I was riding it down the street the other day and it just bogged out and died? I have checked all the obvious, it has spark, its getting fuel and it feels like it has good compression. I dont know if theres a way the timing may have jumped or something? I dont know that much about these motors so I was hoping someone might have some suggestions and then I can keep rockin:YEAH !!

Re: XR50 no start?

not likely to jump timing, my guess would be a carb problem

Re: XR50 no start?

I'm not really sure what the carb settings should be or anything since I have never touched it prior to this. I pulled the carb off and verified it was getting fuel to the bowl but beyond that I dont know what I'm lookin for?

Re: XR50 no start?

Maybe thats it! I rarely ride the thing with out a few beers in me, I'll have to wait till I have a few beers this afternoon before I start working on it . After posting my last reply I walked over to it kicked it over and it ran for about 15sec and died? After 500 kicks and then me kicking the whole bike over to the curb it wount start! WTF I thought only slowzukis did this chit?

Re: XR50 no start?

you dont need to mess with the settings just remove the carb and take it completely apart and check for any blockage.. a small piece of dirt in a port is a common problem
just count the turns before you remove the screws
if you have an air compressor blow it out or you could use gumout

Re: XR50 no start?

sometimes a jet in my bike gets shit in it and if i give it any throttle the shit dies, i just crack opent the bowl drain and leave the gas on. Let a cup of gas flow right through everything then close the bowl drain valve. see if that helped.
