Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

I know its an old thread. But for those of us that have not been around as long. I thought that I would post some actual pics of what Fab5Fiddy was trying to explain. This mod will work until you need new pads. Then the mod must be repeated. The Pics w/Fab5fiddy's instructions are pretty much self-explanatory. You can see in the Pic where the cam touches or engages the pads. All you have to do is shave roughly 1/8" off the bottom pad, and make sure that pad w/ most thickness is on top!! And Hot Damn Fabtastics Brakes. Hope this helps.

O Yea I took about 20 Minutes!!

Wow! I can't believe I read the whole thread! I haven't done the mod but will. It makes perfect sense.

Hard to believe that Homer dude has not yet learned that there are many "REAL" world applications that do work...but didn't on paper, Just as there are many that work on paper but fail in the real world.

That being said, how can you not try it and argue that it doesn't work with hundreds that have tried it and say it works??

Seems like further "real world" education is in order.

I just read the whole thing also, and my fvcking head hurts now. Homosparents is a moron, Fab is the man and I'll be doing this sometime this week. Lots 'o sh1t looks good from a desk a 1000 miles away from an engineers perspective. Thanks fab.

Yeah I did it on my front brakes and they actually got worse. Some people say that you can do it with the front and it should work. Maybe I just filed it down too much.

You can also get the front brake arm off a Honda Ruckus scooter and replace the sock 50 front brake arm with the one from the ruckus. The arm on the ruckus is longer giving you more leverage and better stopping.

I also replaced my stock pads with some EBC pads and i found them to be a lot better.

homer, thanx for the insults and your disbelief in my simple brake mod. im sorry i didnt write a 3 page instruction manual so people like you could understand how this works. many people have posted above me explaining it in laymen's terms why this works. if you still dont understand then im sorry. im a high school drop out that understands how things work. maybe if i stuck my head in front of a book all day like you i could type with big words to make people think i know what im talking about. get your hands dirty. you would be suprised how much you learn. if you dont like it, dont try it. simple as that. IT WORKS. i wouldnt have posted it if it didnt. im not here to waste peoples' time with bullshit threads. i start a thread when i feel it will help some people. i have proved myself in this hobby for years. im sorry you were not here to witness any of it, but the people who where here know it.

thanx to my bros for backin me up. those who tryed it know whats up. :YEAH
Yo Fab5, you're tha man! I'm a mechanical engineer and I don't think I would have figured out this brake mod by staring at that crappy service diagram. Oh, BTW, HOMO may be an engineer or whatever, but he is a disgrace to all 50 riders... ...if anyone wants the real physics explination as to why this mod works hit me up, I'll save the science for class time lol!

can you make a diagram of the front brakes and how they work my front brakes are shit!! also. Do i do exactly the same thing on the front as the rear diagram not sure what pad is the thicker one they seem to be the same thickness thanks

Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

front is identical to the rear, ive only done this to the rear not the front. Maybe someone else can comment if they've done it to the front?? I know a new linkage arm with more leverage solves the trick in the front (50stunt)
