Apparently HOMOSPARENTS must not understand the concept of a leading/trailing drum brake system

Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

I think my wheel is fu**ed. I did the mod along time agi and the same thing happend. Still sticking and engaging horribly. Anybody have any ideas? I even had a mechanic try to help me and we couldnt figure it out. Hes thinking i maybe warped the drum well from over heating it by using it so much... whats your guy's thoughts on that? Need help, im thinking of just going to hydraulic, im tired of drum brakes.

okay jus got done fixin it. . . .a few things were wrong with mine. first off there is a rubber dust boot of som sort around the brake arm that was hangin up a lil so i removed it.
My brake cam was all gummed up so i cleaned it up and sprayd a little wd40 on it now that thats free. . .
Also (I dont know what ya wanna call it but #8 in the pic was gettin caught up on the hub it was bent in so i straightend it out.

then I went ahead and did the brake mod. . .

Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

I read this thread months ago but never made the mod because I didn't think it would make that big of a difference...I was wrong. I just did the mod and what a huge difference! I never thought my hand brake worked very well but with this mod it's got a lot more power. great fix...thanks for the info

Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

Ok... does this work as on you front brakes as well?? it worked really well on my back brakes but my front brakes still suck. ever since i put the BBR kid on about 8 months ago my front brakes suck. I think its the short lever that comes with the bars that give you no leverage. maybe i can find a longer brake lever some where.

Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

i know this is hella late, but i thought i'd point out the fact that surface area, is in fact implied in the equation, as in force of friction.

More area rubbing, more fricition over the brakes, thus causing MORE fricition.

more friction, more force.

Re: Fix your brakes for free, Brake modification

I see what you mean about rolling forward doesn't stop as good as reverse. You can tell that from just pullin the wheel off and testin it back and forth.
But how much do you grind off? I've done two diff brake shoes and both of them stop like ass. Just pullin off my pads and sanding them real good before each session seems to do me the best. Ya got any pics of measurements of how much to grind off?

I think your best off just keeping the stock pads clean like your doing. I did the mod and my brakes did work much better but after a few months I started having disengageing problems and had to buy new pads.
