I need help on deciding which bike to choose.

I'm trying to figure out which bike to buy for 2004, i just sold my gixxer 6 that i have been riding since march. At first, I was pretty solid on buying the 2004 r1, but on second thought I might wanna buy another 600 so i can all that i can from that size bike.

I think i had a pretty strong background with the gix 600 i ccould do wheelies almost a 1/4 mile in length in first. i just felt like the bike was limiting me. I couldnt keep the bike up in 2nd gear because the bike didnt have enough power + i didnt know how to bounce it. btw i clutch wheelies. also if i do end up getting the 04 r1 ill prolly end up wheeling it on the freeway. i also rode in the canyons frequently, didnt like the bogging of my bike. i rode my friend's r1 and it felt great, the seating position felt real comfortable and the r6 felt even better. i sat on the new gsxr 1000 it feels just like my old 01 gixxer 600, like i was sitting on a fat bomb. The reason why i want a new bike is because i want more power.

what do you guys think i should do? stay with 6 or get the liter bike?

and the 750 doesnt count becuase yamaha doesnt make one and the '04 one has just as much power as this years r1. so its the same as buying a liter bike.

also if this is any help im 5'7" and 133 pounds

any help is appreciated

Go with what's comfortable. Both liter bikes are just that, loads of power, and not much more heavier than the 600's. I personally love yam's, but it's preference. Don't worry about the wheelies, they come with practice, and bouncing them up sometimes takes awhile to figure out

This is off the subject a bit I'm sure, but why did you bail on your old bike so fast? I rode the same bike for like 11 years... just wondered...

If money involved and insurance prices have absolutely no bearing on this decision then I'd buy a 1000 in a heartbeat. Just from what I've heard, though, a 1000cc bike's insurance is about 3 times more than it's 600cc counterpart. Obviously you weren't too attached to the 600, so you'll need to weigh that aspect as well. If you weren't too keen on the previous 600, why bother with another one?

Something else to consider is what you're going to do with the bike. If you want to go fast, that's one thing, but if you want to do stunts and the like as well then that's another. I had heard that R1s weren't a super-solid bike to stunt on, and last weekend I saw first hand what people meant. There was a guy stunting on his R1, doing some no-handed riding, supermans, and a few other things and by the end of the night we could see his taillight bouncing like it was held on by a thread. Why drop the money on a really nice bike that's not going to hold up under what you want to do?

Personally, and only in theory, I think I'd go with a 600 or a 750 GSXR and get a bigger sprocket. I can't speak from experience, however, as I've ridden neither a GSXR or an R1.

it has the power, i think you may want to stick with the 600 and learn how to bounce it or use more throttle with the clutch.

Dont get me wrong i love suzuki's as far as im concerned they are THE BEST performance wise but i want to go yamaha for '04 + if i wanted to buy the new gsxr 750 i'd just go get the gsxr 1000 becuase the price difference in only 1000 .

Nothing and i mean NOTHING tops the looks of the r1. i would be stunting it really hard most likely all ill be doing is basic stuff like wheelies, stoppies, endos, and of course burnouts.

Yes im very tempted to get the r6 BUT there is not enough incentive ill have less power than i had before on my gsxr 600 ill prolly learn how to handle bike well on the ride home after i buy it. btw my gsxr had 49 state cam, full yosh, re mapped brain -1 down in front, and it was fast quicker than the new zx-6r (in a straight line)

i ditched the bike becuase PRIMARIlY because my parents made me. im 19 still live with mom and dad. i had fallen on the bike about 2 months back and i was pretty scraped up. parents say they need the money (but i think its becuase i fell and they are scared).

when i buy a new bike, they'll give me back the money from the bike so i could use it as a down payment.

for just riding get what you like, if you are goign to stunt get something that is durable and there are tons of parts and accessories for like suzuki or honda.

all the bikes have plenty of power, that gixxer wasn't limiting you, you were limiting you. it's all about practice. tons of people use 600's.

Dude, no offense, but you have about as much business on a 1k cc sport bike as the man in the moon. You didn't take the time to learn everything your old bike had to offer. Your old bike would have done all the stunts you mentioned, and then some, given you would have had the time to feel it out a little bit more.

If you get a 1k sportbike, or even the new 750, it's gong to be
overwhelming, which doesn't translate into fun. Get you another older 600, take a few years and get really comfortable with it, THEN, if you want a new bike, more power to ya.

Don't take it wrong, I mean you no disrespect, but a 1k is nothing to take lightly, and it's definitely not a bike to learn stunts on.
