anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

I broke my collar bone 2 weeks ago and on my follow up they think w/ my line of work I should get my collar bone operated on. it is finally lined up and trying to heal but my shoulder will be a bit shorter and have a lump...who cares? but the downside to that is that i have to live with this damn sling and really light duty work for the next 6 weeks....and no RIDING The ortho says I could be back to full function and working fully in 2 days if I get the pins or what ever they do. my main issue with that is that I know I will probably have a good chance of landing hard and possibly doing this all again...lol so really what I wanna know is what is the better idea for long term thinking and stunting with either ones durability

Re: anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

Join the crowd of broke collar bones I can say first hand I know how you feel. I was asked if I wanted a plate but decided to hold off I am expected to get another x-ray on the 10th so we will see how the collar is holding up then as for me I have enough battle wounds. I can’t stand getting another surgery even if its just a plate and few screws. I broke mine a few weeks ago and its taking forever to heal no riding not much of anything having to do with my left arm. I attached a few picts in order in one you will see the docs drawing for the plate fix. Take care HoHey

Its hard to keep track with my x-ray films I cant seem to stop moving my left arm enough to let the bone heal but I am trying to avoid getting a plate. You mentioned doing some custom anodizing shoot me your shops info I might be interested. We have been thinking of possibly anodizing a few triples to see how well people like them but so far the raw looks been working-out for fellow stunters. I am doing up my bike and might be interested in doing something a little special to bling it up. If you guys have a web site shoot me a link. Thanks HoHey

Re: anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

crtchrktrcr im still down to try it out for ya...hydros make me sick as hell...hate them. I have a full bottle of 30 7.5s that I dont use lol i like the pain a lot better than the puking from the pain killers. ill hit you with the pm and the address

thats how it is for me man...can not stop moving it, plus been working everyday for 6-8 hrs since the day after I broke it..DUMB I dont like the thought of the plate but I may have no other option,....the damn thing should be getting healed up a lil by now and it still has the gapping feeling from the bone not connecting. they say the gap will go away with my muscles pulling...but damn i dont know what to do. i would think crashing again on that side would be really bad after the plate....not to mention the fact that its a lot of $$

as for the anodizing...after stunters see them anodized it will be the new hohey hotness...lol not to mention it will increase the durability as well as the cosmetics. aluminum tends to oxidize very rapidly and over time will be fugly. even the raw polished look can happen if you get a clear anodize...then you will still have the wear and weather protection. here is our website www.absolutefinish.com we also do hard coat anodizing which is SUPER strong but is only available in black and dark green.

Re: anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

well i guess they want to put a small pin inside the bone and it will actually be removed after 8 weeks! I can ride my bike and all sorts of stuff after like 2 days! I am doin it as long as it gets approved...seems good to go. will find out tomorrow

A custom anodized collar bone would be tits!

The x-ray would have flames coming out of it.

Re: anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

I would just lay off for awhile and let it heal. I broke my collar bone in 95 and it doesn't hurt near as bad as the titanium femurs.

dude, PLEASE let yourself heal... 6 weeks isn't anything compared to the time you will do if you dont let yourself heal properly... most of us are going to have some jacked up bones when we are 80 just from all the stress and breaks we put our bodies through anyway, but dont take away your ability to ride just because your passion takes over... be patient..

if i read this right, i would encourage you NOT to get the pins if your body will heal itself.. what is 2 days and a couple grand compared to 6-8 weeks full recovery?
truth is, you probably WILL break it again, so you have the option of pins later also..

Re: anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

if I leave it to heal, it could be an issue later because of the funny angle of it. the doc says all the shoulder and neck muscles have to make up for the shortened collar bone. If i get a pin put in, it will be out in 8 week and my bone will be like new again and I can use it 2 days later as if it were never broken.

well the 2 pins and 1 screw in my wrist never made my bone heal as good as new and it's been a year now. my collarbone on the other hand doesn't bother me anymore and I let I heal. my ortho said " you can let i heal and deal with the bump, or you can have surgery and deal with the bump and the scar." my wrist still bothers the fuk outta me after riding for a little while or if I move it in an akward way. i'd let the collar bone heal. my 2 pennies.

Re: anyone have any collar bones w/ pins?

hmm you guys are makeing me start to rethink this....fuck I hate important decisions man. I know that the old way they fixed collarbone hate a permanent pin or plate and that never heals all the way....ortho really had me sold on the removable pin because its just there for 8 weeks. but then again what if something does go wrong then if fooked...i hate my life...lol
