CBR is making me broke... CBR is making me broke... As many of you know i bought a 99 CBR recently as a stunt bike. I got it for 3800 thinking i got a steal. Well so far I have had to replace the oil, plugs, clean the air filter, cooling system flush, replace clutch, replace main fude, replace head bearings, and replace the rear tire... Tonight everything was fine until near my house i did an endo. I landed and the bike was still running ... I pulled it into where I park it and shut it off. Something said to start the bike again and less than a minute after shutting it off I tried starting it again and the battery is dead. Sounds like its trying to turn over but eventually the battery dies. Not enough juice. I push start it and ride it around a bit hoping it gets some charge. i get back home and turn it off and when I go to crank it like 2 minutes later same crap.. Has this happened to anyone before? is there any test i can do to see if the battery is the problem of the charging system? I know i can hook it up to a volt meter but i dont have one readily available... HELP!!!!!

Checked all the battery connections. Everything is nice and tight... I jumped it again a few minutes ago and it starts right away, but when i take the jumper cables off it idles fine for about 30 seconds then dies. is it the battery not keeping charge or the alternator not chargin? i know the alternator doesnt charge under 1500 rpm so i maintained the RPMs at 3k and as soon as i let it idle it dies...

Did you check the reciptor? (What ever you call it) The black unit under your rear cowl, leftside, that may have got'n loose when you flip your endo.

OK HERE IS AN UPDATE... I went ahead and put the trickle charger on the battery. I got it to start just fine. I put the voltmeter on it and these are the readings... At idle the battery read between 10.6 and 10.8 and at 5K rpm the battery reads 11.6-11.8... Is there something wrong with the battery or the stator or the rectifier?

SOUNDS LIKE A BAD BATT, BIKE CHARGING SYSTEMS ARN'T THAT STRONG, AND REQUIRE THE BATT TO HELP RUNN, NOT JUST START, TAKE THE BATT TO A BIKE SHOP AND THEY SHOULD LOAD TEST IT AT NO CHARGE TO YOU-D

Update.... I gave in and took it to the mechanic. OUTCOME? Both the stator and rectifier are fried... REASON? the bulbs the bike had were 90/150 (or something like that) and they were requiring too much power. Can this be the cause?

| i have seen big bulbs burn up a rectifier before, at least that is what the mechanic told my friend as well, he said that there is a charging company out there that sells higher voltage batteries with a connection poit that allows you to run the bike, and add a 12-v plug for cell phone's, and stuff, and you can use brighter bulbs with those, i forgot the name of the company, but that should help you get started with solving it!!

Haha, I was going to suggest checking the headlight bulbs. This is a VERY common problem for people. You're lucky it didn't burn up your headlight plugs on the harness as well as melt part of the headlight assembly.

| is that all you had to replace on a 3800$ stunt bike? that's not bad man....seriously. i paid 3800$ for my 2001 929rr for a stunt bike and i probably put 200-300 into it so far. It's up and going, i just have to finish getting the stuff on it and i'm waiting on my scott's steering damper mount....

If ya gonna trick around with the electricals try changing the battery to a sealed gel unit, their hassle free unlike acid filled ones. ive done this for a couple of race bikes and stunters down here in OZ and they work a treat ![]()

cry me a river guys. I've spent over $500 so far on my '98 F3 STREET bike with 4000 miles. New clutch, clutch cable, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, fuel lines, jets on carb, new pipe....the list goes on and on and I still don't know what the **** is wrong with it.
