Help ordering a new rear sprocket & chain - General Sportbike Discussion

I call Sprocket Specialist today to order a new front and rear sprocket. While talking with the Lady she told me that I can not go down any teeth in the front on the 954RR because of the casing but on other bikes you can.

The rear my bike is 43 stock. She told me going +3 in the rear is equal to –1 in the front. They only make a 45 in steal for the rear but go up to 71 in aluminum. Do I go with aluminum even though it is weaker?

I was looking to go –2 front and +4 rear but since I can not change the front sprocket I am going to go +10 in the rear to 55 teeth. Is there a problem with going a lot up in the rear besides changing your chain?

What chain should I get 525, 530, etc….??? The large the number the thicker the chain. I think mine is 530 stock, should I leave it at that?

Anything I should consider when just changing the rear by so much?

Do you recommend sprocket specialist and/or do you recommend a different company???

Keep your stock chain size...the thicker the stronger!

I have been using an aluminum sproket and have never had a problem with it.

Something to consider...by going up so much in the rear you may need to add additional chain links to your existing chain or buy another chain. Also, going up in gearing is a jurastic change and if you are not an experienced stunter/rider it will probably make things more difficult for you rather than easier. Deffinitely plan on taking things slow if you are going to make such a change. If not you will probably end up on your

Other Options...I would give Vortex Racing a call to see what they can do for you. They have tons of experience and can probably get you a better deal. You can order the sproket and chain from them. They sell the Regina chains and work great for me so far. Click on their link form my signature. At least you can have some prices to compare to and get their opinion on the matter as well. They also came out with some pretty pimp frame silders as well.

If u go with S.S. you may want to consider their Titan Tough coating for +10 bucks. Increased wear resistance so the alum sprocket will hold up better.
