Update 08

Re: Update 08
Drew, you have any real big guys that have been wake boarding? I'm like 280 and I can't get out of the water to save my life. The board doesn't even begin to plane. Any tips? I'm pulling with a 17' bow rider with the 3.0L mercruiser.

Re: Update 08
Not only are you clueless, but you're so tall and skinny, it'd be like towing a stick on a board... I doubt you'd have any problems getting up if you actually got a chance to try wakeboarding. Stop by... I'll give you a free lesson.
Zuki750... I've towed a 260lb guy out with my 16' 3.0L Merc. He has a hard time getting up because he's not very good. I'm 230lb... on a good day... and can pop right up no problem. Once you learn to get up, its easier for the boat... and your board to get up on plane that much quicker. FYI... I'm riding a 142 which is the biggest size wakeboard that I know of. Here's a little tip that is good for beginners... as soon as the boat start to go, turn your hips immediately and point your front foot towards the boat. I've noticed the pros stay sideways much longer while coming out of the hole, but they're on a wider board than mine... and they're pros! If you try to hold the board sideways and get up on plane that way, it takes longer than if you were to turn it straight right away. Works for me anyway...

Re: Update 08
Busted my board last night. It was hydroslide black widow. Don't buy one... they snap in half when jumped too hard. I read reviews that they break under hard landings, but never thought I'd get to the point where I would actually break one. Heel side air... landed on top of the opposite wake... board snapped in two... then I broke the bigger half again against the bow of my boat.... grrrrrr. Had the board 4 weeks when the bindings tore and I bought really nice CBW's... after 9 weeks, the board breaks. Piece of ****!!!!

Re: Update 08
When starting, I hold my arms straight between my legs. Stand up like someone is pulling you off the floor from a sitting position. Squat like in a chair until you feel the pressure under the board... turn the board... and pull yourself up to a standing position. Don't pull the handle towards your chest because it causes you to fall backwards. Leave your arms straight and let the boat pull you rather than you trying to pull the handle closer.

Re: Update 08
For that price, I'll sell my boat and buy a wakeboard boat. It would throw a better wake anyway.

Re: Update 08
Thats the route I'm hoping to take next season. If I can't find a decent wakeboard boat, I want to look for a deck boat and put a tower on it. It's just like a bow rider, but has a squared off front end for more seating room, but it's still a V-shaped hull. Either way... I gotta have a tower next year!
