| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? I had a problem with my xr after putting big bars on it. it was similar to what your having, mine would idle but not rev. I ended up taking the carb off, took the bowl off and cleaned everything out. hosed it with carb cleaner and blew low pressure air through it. it ran fine after that. I'm thinking dirt got in somewhere and was hanging the float or not letting the needle seat properly. |

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? I can twist the throttle, but it doesn't feel like it moves as much as usual. I've only had the bike 2 weeks today and only rode it up and down the road a few times before I pulled it all apart for the suspension and big bar kit. Thanks for the help, I'll pull the carb today so I can be 100% sure it's back together. When I say it only runs for the 30s, basically I finally get it to crank it revs up for a bit and I'm twisting the throttle to get it to come back down and when it does it dies. It's almost like the carb is stuck open and then immediately closes. Also when I try to start it, it's got a ton of compressor in the cylinder causes the bike jumps a little bit. I swear if something can go wrong, it'll go wrong when I'm doing it. The one thing that could go wrong with installing all this stuff is the only time I gotta mess with the engine, I screw it up, lol! Quote:

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? I went to go put all my stock stuff in a tub to store and noticed a gasket on the carb cap... Mine didn't have one, so put it on the new one.. Still won't crank so going to take the carb off and clean. Fingers crossed!!

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? Update.... I took the carb off, cleaned it throughly and blew some air through it. All was spotless so I put it back together and back on the bike as well as installed a new 50stunt billet throttle and cable. Throttle works perfect and it did crank a couple of times and kinda idled but didn't rev and eventually died. I'm at a lost here, kinda fed up with it and ready to drop it off some where to get fixed! Anyone else have any other suggestions? I swear I have the worst luck!!

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? Fixing to check the plug, one thing I haven't done yet. If that's good, then curious if I could just buy a new upgraded carb... maybe a 24mm and be good to roll plus an upgrade?

are you letting it warm up for a while? the stock motors don't like to run untill they are nice and warm. If you start it, then try to crack the throttle, they will die, for like the first 2-3 minutes of having the bike running. The only thing you did was put a big bar on this bike? before that it ran cherry? thats really crazy cuz the only part of the engine you touch is the needle in the slide and the carb cap. are you using the choke? | |

I didn't let it warm up before reving it, maybe that was an issue...or fouled the plug possibly

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? a 24mm on a stock motor would be way too much carb for that bike if your gona spednd that much money on an upgrade i'd go for the big bore kit!!!!.... i would try getting it running with the stock carb before you go throwin parts at it. Check the wire goin into the spark plug cap sometimes they like to come out. Also there is a flat head screw at the bottom of the carb bowl, after you start it and it dies immediately turn that counter clockwise and see if fuel comes running out of the overflow tube, when you have the gas on it should keep running out of there. This will tel you if i is getting fuel. I know this stuff may sound stupid but its always best to check the basics before you spend a bunch of money!!!!!!!! if it does end up being something wrong wih the carb i have a nice stock one that i would part with.. |

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? Dunno WTF happened, I posted the below Wed on here and now it's not here??? Problem solved! Such as freakin' easy fix and of course the last thing I checked/did... Fouled plug and I'd bet it was because of the below scenerio which fouled it and went down hill afterwards. It runs perfect and as a plus now has a clean carb too. Put big bars on, cracked throttle tube tightening it so throttle didn't work properly. I also didn't realize the new carb cap (BTW protaper throttle cable sucks, too high and hits frame) didn't come with a gasket so after it wouldn't start and I pulled it back off I realized it and put the stock one on it. Still no go....thinking the plug was pretty fouled by this point but also had new cable and billet throttle coming so of course when it came in, still wouldn't run right. Thanks for all the help and quick replies! Sorry it turned out to be so easy to fix, but glad it's running perfect again! BTW, after installed the new plug, the first kick and it was up and running again.

| Re: Big Bar Swap & Now 50 Won't crank? its always the simplest shit that screws ya up. always check the basics... stock 50's shouldn't foul plugs out too often, i think i've had the same plug in my 69 honda mini trail for ten years and it still runs!!! lol if it fouls one again i would check the jetting to see ifsomeone put a bigger main in.. and i think the air screw should be out about 1 3/4-2 turns... now put a big bore kit on that shit!!!!!! |
