| Has anyone in the New England area studded his or her tires? I went to Billerica the other week and was talking with Joe (runs the repair shop). I was going to use my old tires and stud them for the ice. He had done it before and did not recommend it. This is what he had to say about studding: Your bike will rust from the cold and salt. Not sure how much salt there is on the lakes. I did not think there was any since they are all fresh water ???? 1. You need to use a trail tire to stud because it is beefier and will hold the studs better. 2. If you spin the rear tire slightly the studs will pull out of your tire. 3. Even after studding it is still slippery I still want to try because it looks like so much fun. Anyone done it before? The other option was to buy a fiddy and stud the tires and sport that on the ice. I can see myself now terrorizing the kiddies on the pond. |
